For over a year, Gregg has been saying he would invite the UX team over for a BBQ at his house. Then last summer ended up being a little hectic with the merger and other stuff, so it never happened. But then in February, he made us a promise: I will have you over for a BBQ this summer. (Please see evidence below). And despite everything that’s happened since then, he pulled through.
Place #27: Gregg’s House aka ‘The Burlington Office’, Burlington, ON
I have heard of and seen pictures of Gregg’s house many times because for the last two years he’s been renovating it himself and Gregg likes to show off about that kind of stuff. (He moved into the house while I was his intern, so I really have been following this project since the beginning). So it was kind of strange being given a tour and recognizing almost all of it. But it was nice to see it in person and as a whole.
Gregg BBQ’d a lot of food, and there was a lot of variety. Multiple types of sausages, two types of chicken, two types of ribs, lots of grilled veggies, meatballs, shrimp, and more. There was also pasta salad and desserts, which were brought by the guests. (It wasn’t just work people, there were some of Gregg’s other friends there was well). I brought dessert (obviously). I made mini cupcakes that looked like tiny burgers and some others topped with mini popsicles. I was really happy with how they turned out.
It was nice to see Gregg again and finally meet his wife Amanda. And their cat Nerd 😀
P.S. The location is called ‘The Burlington Office’ because whenever Gregg was leaving work (usually before 5pm), he’d say, ‘I’m going to go continue working at the Burlington office.’ And in case it’s not obvious yet, Finastra doesn’t have a Burlington office.
Other new places this week:
- Chloe’s apartment, where I got to meet her 4-month old kitten named Marble (@marblethebaby). I’ve seen him grow (through pictures) over the past couple months she’s had him, but he’s still so small!
- Bronte GO Station
