As the days go by, I become more and more comfortable here in Leeds. However, as you become more comfortable, you start to notice things you hadn’t before. For example, while a 20min walk is completely reasonable, it’s annoying and adds a considerable chunk of time to any trip. And while I’m sure I will be able to come up with a long list of things that annoy me by the end of the term (is it really so hard to provide toilet paper?!), I’m reminded that what I have is an amazing opportunity that a lot of people can’t take.
So in the spirit of opportunity, I’m taking a day trip to York this Saturday. It was a very rapidly made plan; a girl I’ve become friends with is going with a few of her friends and invited me along. I knew that I wanted to take a day or weekend trip to York at some point but hadn’t even started thinking about doing trips yet. Since it will be nicer to travel with people rather than alone, I said yes. And it didn’t hurt that the bus there round trip is only 8.50 pounds! We haven’t actually planned what we’re going to do when we get there, but I’m sure it will be fun. Worst case scenario, I can’t see the things I want to see. But I highly doubt I would be able to see everything I wanted to see in one day anyways. It just means I’ll have to go back 🙂
I’ve had three of my four classes so far, and they look interesting. I think that the work will be difficult because it seems like they have very high expectations. And it’s all very artistic and abstract, whereas I
need prefer direction and a clear end goal. I have no doubts about my ability to succeed, it will just take longer, I think, for me to get there. Also, nobody here uses their laptops to take notes in class. So I’ve been handwriting my notes; I’ve realized I missed it.
